Provider Press is excited to announce Temple Adornment, Issue 1, the first volume in a remarkable annual journal series that explores contemporary tattooing and spirituality, due to release December 2016.
This 150-page limited edition publication collects candid conversations with preeminent tattooers—Joe Nickley, Cole Dunn, Erik Von Bartholomaus, and Ivan Soyars—who work within and uniquely push forward the Americana tattoo tradition. This heuristic discourse examines tattooing beyond process and decoration, and alongside religion, mysticism, sacred symbolism, spiritual practice, anthropology, history, and culture. It includes a rich collection of works by these tattooers, and essays by the editor discussing the timeless aesthetics of transcendence, spiritual development, and tattoo.
Temple Adornment will be available for advance pre-order on November 4th, 2016 at templeadornment.bigcartel.com. The journal’s release will be celebrated on December 2nd, 2016 with a gallery show featuring original works by these tattooers, reading selections from the journal, and live tattooing, generously hosted by Grand Union Tattoo in downtown Indianapolis at 421 Massachusetts Avenue. This event will be open to the public.

Michael Bushman lives in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he is a practicing social worker and psychotherapist, alongside his wife, Lauren. His path in spirituality and tattoo joined together into the devotional work that has become Temple Adornment.
